The Open Purse Hits Record High
Historic Payout for the Champion Golfer of the Year
151st Open Championship Features Unprecedented Prize Fund
The 151st Open Championship will crown its champion with a record payout, marking a significant milestone in the tournament's history. The winner will receive a staggering £2.5 million (approximately $3.1 million) from a record prize purse of £11.5 million (approximately $16.5 million), the highest ever offered at The Open.
In addition to the record-breaking winner's share, the purse distribution will see significant increases across the board. All 72 players who make the cut will receive a cash prize, with the last-place finisher earning £12,500 (approximately $15,700).
The 2023 Open Championship boasts the smallest purse and winner's share among the four major golf championships this year. However, the tournament's purse has grown steadily over the years, with the prize fund increasing by £25 million (approximately $32 million) since 2022.
The Open's purse remains lower than the other majors, but the tournament's unique format and rich history continue to attract top golfers from around the world.
