He's Back! Fernando Tatis Jr. Returns in Padres 3-0 Win Over Tigers
San Diego Shows Power in Preseason Debut
Tatis Jr. Shines in First Game Back
Baseball fans in San Diego have something to cheer about this spring as Fernando Tatis Jr. made his triumphant return to the field in the Padres' 3-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers in their first preseason game on Saturday.
Tatis Jr., who missed the entire 2022 season due to a wrist injury and subsequent suspension for performance-enhancing drugs, looked sharp in his return, going 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
The Padres, as a whole, showed some impressive power in the win, hitting two home runs off of Tigers' pitching. Wil Myers got the scoring started with a solo shot in the fourth inning, while Brandon Drury added a two-run homer in the sixth to give San Diego a 3-0 lead.
On the mound, Padres starter Nick Martinez was solid in his two innings of work, allowing just one hit and striking out two batters.
The Padres will continue their preseason schedule on Monday with a game against the Chicago Cubs.
